Kognitive Neurologie

Die enorme Anzahl an Fasern, die der Großhirnrinde entspringen und über die pontinen Kerne in das Kleinhirn projizieren, weisen den cerebro-ponto-cerebellären Pfad als eine wichtige Instanz der sensomotorischen Integration aus. Er vereint schon auf der Ebene der pontinen Kerne sensorische Eingänge, z.B. visuelle oder auditorische Signale, mit Motorsignalen der Extremitäten und der Augen. Bei den Untersuchungen über die funktionelle Architektur der Brückenkerne geht es um die Frage, ob die Informationsströme, die ihren Ursprung in verschiedenen Teilen des cerebralen Cortex nehmen, auf der Ebene der Brückenkerne miteinander interagieren.

Untersuchungen, die dem Kleinhirn gelten, befassen sich mit der Frage, ob das Kleinhirn tatsächlich, wie seit Marr und Albus vermutet, ein wesentliches Instrument des motorischen Lernens ist. Sie versuchen zu klären, welche neuronalen Mechanismen dem motorischen Lernen zugrunde liegen. Die Arbeitshypothese, die in Experimenten an nichthumanen Primaten verfolgt wird, ist, dass der cerebelläre Cortex motorische Programme kontinuierlich, auf einer Zeitskala von Sekunden bis Minuten, an die sich stetig verändernden Eigenschaften der Effektoren und der Umwelt, mit der die Effektoren interagieren, anpasst. Die Grundlagen des motorischen Lernens werden am Beispiel des sakkadischen Lernens untersucht, wobei experimentelle Läsionen sowie Einzel- und Multielektrodenableitungen zum Einsatz kommen. Die Arbeitsgruppe interagiert mit der Wahrnehmungsarbeitsgruppe (Labor für Visuelle Wahrnehmung), wenn sie den Gedanken verfolgt, dass zerebelläre Beiträge zur Wahrnehmung darauf basieren könnten, dass das Kleinhirn interne Modelle motorischer Leistungen, die die Wahrnehmung beeinflussen, anbietet, die in ganz ähnlicher Weise wie die internen Modelle, die zur Optimierung motorischer Leistungen dienen, fortwährend angepasst werden.
