"2024 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences" for Tübingen Parkinson’s Researcher Prof. Thomas Gasser

Prof. Thomas Gasser, chair of the board of directors at the HIH and director of the “Department for Neurodegenerative Diseases”, has been awarded the “2024 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences” endowed with US$ 3 Mio, during the Prize Ceremony in LA on Saturday, together with Ellen Sidransky and Andrew Singleton for discovering genetic risk factors for Parkinson’s disease.

Founded in 2012 by sponsors Sergey Brin, Priscilla Chan & Mark Zuckerberg, Julia & Yuri Milner und Anne Wojcicki, the “Breakthrough Prize” is the world’s largest international science prize. 

The 2024 Breakthrough Prize Ceremony, also known as the "Oscars of Science", took place on Saturday, April 13 in Los Angeles. Hosted by James Cordon in the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the ceremony featured a lot of Hollywood celebrities like Robert Downey Jr. and Bradley Cooper, Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry, but you could also spot Bill Gates and Rupert Murdoch, Rihanna and Venus Williams.

However the evening was not about them, but rather about scientists who had made world-changing discoveries. Thomas Gasser received his award from Rob Lowe and Sergey Brin. 
The HIH sends out the biggest congratulations on this really special award!
