Prof. Dr. Kathrin Brockmann, senior physician at the University Neurology Clinic in Tübingen, head of the Parkinson's outpatient clinic and the "Clinical Parkinson Research" research group at the HIH, was elected the new president of the "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Parkinson und Bewegungsstörungen e.V. (DPG)" last year. Happening on April 10 and 11, 2025, she is organizing the DPG workshop "Genetics and Biomarkers in Parkinson's Disease" in Tübingen.
Parkinson's research is on the cusp of a breakthrough. A decade of advances in genetics, biomarker identification, and pathophysiology, as well as groundbreaking international collaborations, have opened new perspectives for personalized and disease-modifying therapies. With the workshop "Genetics and Biomarkers in Parkinson's Disease" on April 10-11, 2025, in Tübingen, the German Society for Parkinson's and Movement Disorders (DPG) is bringing together renowned experts in the field and young researchers to discuss the latest findings and future challenges.
"We will reflect on what we have achieved together and what lies ahead in order to decisively advance the diagnosis, therapy, and potentially causal treatment of Parkinson's disease," explains Prof. Kathrin Brockmann.
The event provides an important platform for scientific exchange and the promotion of translational research approaches. Renowned experts will present their research findings in areas such as polygenic risk score, LRRK2-associated genetics and biomarkers, lysosomal and GBA1-associated genetics, mitochondrial genetics and biomarkers, and alpha-synuclein pathology. A special focus will be on supporting young scientists. Students, doctoral students, and postdoctoral researchers are invited to present their research results in the form of posters.
