The retreat kicked off with a brief introduction by the event organizers Prof. Lisa Sevenich & Dr. Ulrike Hedrich-Klimosch, setting the tone for a day filled with lively discussions and collaborative activities. Afterwards, research groups gave a short presentation, highlighting their methodologies and research findings. This segment provided a valuable overview of the diverse scientific work being carried out across the institute.
During the poster session, PhD students showcased their research posters, focusing on innovative methods and techniques used in their studies. This session fostered in-depth discussions and opened the door to potential future collaborations between different research groups. The lunch break allowed for informal exchanges, giving attendees the chance to dive deeper into discussions sparked during the poster session and continue networking in a relaxed setting.
A key moment of the day, the next session introduced the role of PhD representatives and gave candidates the opportunity to pitch their vision in short 2-minute speeches. Voting followed, with the newly elected representatives announced shortly thereafter. The newly elected PhD Representatives are: Stefano Iavarone from the lab of Dr. Ulrike Hedrich-Klimosch, Niloofar Mokhtari from the lab of Prof. Esther Kühn and Surender Surender from the lab of Prof. Ghazaleh Tabatabai.
Finally, an open discussion roundtable provided a platform to discuss ideas for improving networking and collaboration within the institute. Participants also proposed additional topics, encouraging a broad and inclusive exchange of thoughts.
The PhD Retreat was a resounding success, promoting meaningful interaction between researchers and creating lasting connections. We look forward to continuing to support and engage with our vibrant PhD community in the future!
