"Time is Retina": When the eye suddenly sees nothing anymore, there is no time to lose

October 29th, 2021 marks World Stroke Day. Not only the brain can suffer an insult- the eye can also be affected by an acute occlusion of the blood supply. Ocular infarction is characterized by a sudden, painless deterioration of vision within seconds. A research team led by PD Dr. Sven Poli of the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research and the University Hospital Tübingen and Prof. Dr. Martin Spitzer of the University Eye Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf is now investigating the extent to which a drug can dissolve the clot and thereby halt the destruction of the retina.
