Genomic of Rare Movement Disorders

Medical technical position

The UKT is a leading centre of university medicine in Germany, treating approximately 75,000 inpatients and
380,000 outpatients annually. The Schüle group at the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research, Department
of Neurodegeneration, is looking for a

BTA / MTA (biological/medical technical assistant) or biology bachelor / master
combined with administrative project management

with an employment level of 100%. The position a Parental leave representation and initially limited to 1.5 years.

The Schüle research group focuses on genomics, pathophysiology and translational research in the field of rare diseases. A wide range of molecular genetic, protein biochemical and cell biological methods are applied in the lab (e.g. exome/genome sequencing, generation and differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing).

Your area of responsibility includes:
• Planning of experimental work, execution and optimization of established methods and test protocols
as well as evaluation and documentation
• Participation in scientific projects, especially in the field of molecular genetics (e.g., segregation
analyses and functional investigation of genetic variants by RNA analyses, qPCR, Western blot, cloning
and expression of new gene variants)
• Cell culture work (e.g. preparation and cultivation of primary human fibroblasts, cultivation of cell
lines (e.g. SH-SY5Y, HEK, COS7 cells), participation in the generation, characterization and
differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells, extraction of lymphocytes from human blood
• Administrative project management in BMBF- and EU-funded research networks
• Organization of laboratory procedures, biosamples and procurement of orders

Your profile:
• Completed vocational training as BTA / MTA or comparable training / study (e.g. Bachelor of Science /
Master of Science in biology or a related field); previous experience in common methods of molecular
genetics, protein biochemistry and cell biology
• Good English (and German) language skills
• Communication and organisational skills
• Ability to work in a structured, self-organized and independent way; good team skills

We look forward to receiving your detailed application!

We offer remuneration according to TV-UK (collective agreement of the university hospitals Baden-

PhD Positions

Bachelor`s and Master's Thesis

We regularly have openings for Bachelor or Master Theses in genetics or cellular biology. Here, you can learn about genome and exome sequencing, all major molecular-genetic and protein biochemical techniques, microscopy, including confocal microscopy and live cell imaging, work with established cell cultures, as well as generating and differentiating human induced stem cells (iPSC). If you are interested, please contact us via E-mail (rebecca.schuele-freyer@uni-tuebingen.de). We can then discuss, which project suits your interests best. We’d also be happy to offer a short “min lab rotation” before you engage in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Thesis, so we can get to know each other and make sure you are at the right place.

Medical Doctor Thesis

We regularly have openings for medical students to perform their medical thesis (Dr. med.) in our lab. Most of the projects we offer require a "Freisemester". If you are interested, please contact us via E-Mail (rebecca.schuele-freyer@uni-tuebingen.de). We'd also be happy to offer a short "mini lab rotation" before you engage in your thesis, so we can get to know each other and make sure you are at the right place.
