After a two-year break, a Neuroscience Campus Get Together took place again on July 28, 2022. This event is traditionally hosted jointly by the HIH, the Center for Integrative Neuroscience (CIN), the Tübingen site of the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) and the Clinic of Neurology.
One item on the program was a tour of the HIH laboratories. This was followed by the presentation of the “HIH Paper of the Year Award”. The award recognizes the best scientific publication from the HIH of the previous year. It was given to Dr. Ulrike Hedrich-Klimosch and Dr. Stephan Lauxmann from the Department of “Neurology and Epileptology” for their publication “4-Aminopyridine is a promising treatment option for patients with gain-of-function KCNA2-encephalopathy” in the journal Science Translational Medicine.
In their study, the research team used a drug approved for multiple sclerosis to treat a severe, early-onset form of epilepsy. The drug directly counteracts the underlying genetic defect. It successfully alleviated the symptoms, thus making drug treatment possible for the first time for those affected.
After the award ceremony, a barbecue station and a bingo game called for a relaxed get together.
Please read our press release for further information on the publication.
