The visit started at the newly founded "Hertie Institute for AI in Brain Health" in the AI Research Building with a welcome from the founding director Prof. Philipp Berens and a lecture on research at Hertie AI, before the guests were given a great view of the AI campus.
The delegation then drove to the Neuro Campus and received an overview of the structure and research at the Hertie Center for Neurology from Dr. Astrid Proksch, the managing director of the HIH.
Prof. Ulf Ziemann, director of the Department of "Neurology with Neurovascular Medicine", then offered a fascinating insight into the "brain as an orchestra" and, together with other researchers, demonstrated an experiment on transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
A lab visit by Dr. Julia Fitzgerald, head of the research group “Mitochondrial Biology of Parkinson’s Disease”, rounded off the program.
